noticed around the world! Worldwide exposure -- The MAX Show
enjoys worldwide acclaim and dealers/collectors swarm all over
the show every year. As it gets bigger and bigger your ad is
given maximum exposure to the right audience. These people mean
business. They come to the show to buy and sell militaria and
if you have an ad in the program, they will see it! A great way
to get year round exposure to potential buyers! Serious dealers/collectors
buy the MAX Show Program all year round. We distribute it to
businesses, hotels, other show locations and MAX Life & Charter
members. It is also sold at the door to almost everyone who enters
the show -- all potential buyers! Feeling lucky? Each Program
comes with a raffle ticket. Saturday night, at the Auction, these
raffle tickets are drawn and prizes are awarded. If you have
the winning ticket, you WIN! These tickets make the Program a
"must have" for everyone at the show and the Auction.
The more people who buy the program, the more people who will
see your ad......but only if you send it in, now. So, if you

THE
"MAX CERTIFIED DEALER PROGRAM"
As
the hobby of militaria continues to grow in popularity, unfortunately,
so have reproduction items being sold as original. Since its inception, the MAX Show has
required reproductions to be labeled as such, but, despite this
rule, there have been infractions. Misrepresentation of this
sort is the number one enemy of the militaria hobby. Tragic realization
with resultant financial loss can be very discouraging. In recent
years, many potential collectors found they had unwittingly purchased
an item that had been altered or was newly made. Once having
fallen into this trap, some never returned and without new blood
coming up, there will be no buyers for the collections many of
us have worked our entire lives to accumulate.
A few years ago, MAX decided it was high
time for our hobby to cleanse itself, and decided to do something
positive to deal with the problem. By incorporating a new rule,
known as "RULE 11," into the MAX Show rules, each dealer
agrees to guarantee the authenticity of any item sold at his
or her tables, for at least the duration of the Show.
Collectors should make sufficient time
to "inspect" and "authenticate" their purchase
prior to leaving the Show. If the item is found to be not authentic,
the dealer will be expected to either refund the purchaser's
purchase price, or work out some other mutually agreed upon resolution.
Should disputes arise or should the dealer not have the funds
on hand, he will have 90 days to satisfactorily clear up the
matter. Unresolved complaints will absolutely result in the offending
dealer being denied tables at future MAX Shows. We do not feel
this is much to ask at our Show. It is the only way to encourage
the entrance of new collectors, and assure the future of our
hobby.
In addition to the new "SHOW REFUND
RULE 11", MAX instituted a long overdue first. We established
a "MAX CERTIFIED DEALER" program. The program follows
simple guidelines, similar to the thousands of neighborhood Better
Business Bureaus designed to promote consumer confidence throughout
the United States. Dealers, who are accepted to become a MAX
CERTIFIED DEALER, are issued a distinctive plaque to display
on their table at all shows. Display of the plaque will tell
potential customers you are a professional who guarantees the
authenticity of your merchandise-not just at the MAX Show, but
at every show. A MAX CERTIFIED DEALER is an honest businessman
who can be trusted. He is a person who conducts business with
fairness, integrity and honor. We have established a Board of
Experts who will meet and "vet" a questionable artifact
or attempt to mediate a problem, should there be a disagreement.
The Board will make recommendations to resolve the situation.
A file of unresolved complaints against dealers has been maintained
by MAX, and is available by written request for the use by the
collecting public.
Our Board of Experts is a mixture of
respected dealers and knowledgeable collectors in our hobby.
A list of the MAX Board of Experts may be obtained from the MAX
Promotions Headquarters office. A dealer wishing to join the
MAX CERTIFIED DEALER program may apply at this year's MAX Show.
Upon acceptance, plaques will be issued at the Show. The fee
to join the program is $25.00 per year or you can purchase a
Lifetime Membership for $100. The MAX Show promoters are eligible
to join the MAX CERTIFIED Dealer program, but cannot serve as
a member of the Board of Experts.
It is hoped that these positive steps
will produce a continued bright future for militaria collecting.
Any questions should be directed to the undersigned.
Very
truly yours,
LTC (Ret.) Thomas M. Johnson, President
Thomas T. Wittmann, Secretary/Treasurer
